Tulsi is the personification of Goddess Lakshmi in Hindu tradition. Worshipping and caring for Tulsi brings prosperity, health, spiritual purity, and blessings to the household. It is revered as the holiest of all plants in Hinduism. The spiritual benefits extend beyond the home, promoting inner peace and positive energy.

Avoid plucking Tulsi leaves on Sundays (sacred to Lord Surya), Ekadashi (fasting days), during eclipses (Grahan), and after sunset. These times are considered sacred or rest periods for the divine essence of the plant. Many devotees also avoid plucking on New Moon and Full Moon days.

Traditional beliefs vary among different regions. Some strict observances suggest minimal water on Sundays as the plant observes a ritual fast, while others maintain that hydration is essential. A moderate watering approach is generally recommended to maintain plant health.

A dried Tulsi plant should never be discarded in regular waste. Respectfully immerse it in a holy river or body of water. If that is not possible, bury it in clean soil with reverence, as Tulsi is considered sacred. This ritual honors the plant’s spiritual significance.

The ideal direction is North or East facing. This orientation ensures optimal sunlight exposure and aligns with Vastu Shastra principles for positive energy flow and spiritual balance in the home. East-facing placement brings morning sunlight, which is most beneficial.
