Vastu Analysis & Remedies

The Science of Home Mandir Direction

In Vastu Shastra, the Puja Room (Mandir) is the cosmic powerhouse of the home. It is the focal point from where divine energy originates and radiates to every other corner of the house. Just as an antenna needs precise orientation to receive signals, your Mandir needs the correct placement (Diksha) to channelize Prana (life force). Incorrect placement can lead to mental restlessness, financial blockage, or lack of peace within the family.

Why North-East (Ishanya) is Supreme?

The North-East direction is the sacred junction where the magnetic energy from the North meets the solar energy from the East. In the Vastu Purusha Mandala, this is where the head of the Cosmic Man rests. Placing the Mandir here ensures that the “Brain” of the house remains light, spiritual, and enlightened, facilitating meditation and connection with the divine.

Essential Vastu Rules for Mandir

  • Idol Height: The feet of the idols should be at the chest level of the worshipper while seated. Placing idols on the floor is considered disrespectful.
  • Sunlight & Air: A Mandir with natural light and ventilation (especially from the East) is considered highly auspicious as it purifies the energy.
  • Dome Structure: A pyramid or dome-shaped top (Gopuram) helps in concentrating cosmic energy within the altar space.
  • Colors: Use Light Yellow, White, or Cream. Avoid Black, Grey, or dark Blue in the prayer room as they absorb light and energy.

Impact of Facing Direction While Praying

Facing East (Surya)

Result: Enlightenment & Health.
Ideally, idols should be placed on the West wall facing East, so the worshipper faces East. This aligns your energy with the rising sun.

Facing North (Kuber)

Result: Wealth & Career.
Facing North helps in attracting financial opportunities and stability. Highly recommended for business owners and students.

Facing West (Varuna)

Result: Gains & Fulfillment.
Acceptable for the fulfillment of material desires (Kaam), but considered less spiritual than East or North.

Facing South (Yama)

Result: Avoid.
South is the direction of Yama (Death). Praying while facing South is generally prohibited in Vastu unless for specific Tantric rituals.

Common Mandir Questions

It is generally avoided. The kitchen has Fire (Agni) energy and cooking fumes/non-veg smells which destroy the sanctity (Sattva) of the temple. If unavoidable (in small apartments), keep it covered in a cabinet when not in use.

Ideally no, especially not in the master bedroom due to marital privacy. If you have space constraints, use the North-East corner of the bedroom and ensure the Mandir has a curtain/door that is closed during sleep.

The space under stairs is considered “dead space” with heavy pressure overhead. People walk over it constantly. Placing a deity there is disrespectful and signifies stepping over the divine, leading to stress and obstacles.

Vastu advises against keeping more than two idols or pictures of the same deity as it may create conflicting energies. It is also important to ensure that idols are not chipped or broken (Khandit).

Pure Cow Ghee is the best for attracting positive vibrations (Sattva Guna) and health. Sesame oil (Til oil) is also excellent for removing obstacles (associated with Saturn/Shani) and pleasing deities.
